Kiera was able to drink overnight but not well, so this morning, an occupational therapist (OT) was called in to determine what the problem could be. Kiera seems to have a bit of an aversion to swallowing milk. Because of this, a new NG feeding tube was put back in. Now, the goal is to try to feed her orally at each feeding time and if she doesn't drink, she gets the feed through the tube. My job (and the nurses' job when I am not around) is to use the techniques that the OT suggested to get Kiera interested in sucking and swallowing. This could be a long process.
On the positive side, Kiera's feeds through the NG tube means that her central line can be taken out as soon as she is drinking 60 ml per feed. Currently, this line is used to give her lipids and other nutrients intravenously. This can be fairly hard on the liver so the NG tube is the lesser of two evils.

Prayers continue for Kiera and her family. Persevere, Mom. Suck, Kiera, honey, suck. Love, Grauntie Cheryl :) A friend of mine shared that one of her great nephews came up with that for Great Aunt - Grauntie. Great Uncle is Gruncle. LOL
