Kiera's surgery was scheduled for 9:00 am, however, the surgeons pushed the time back due to an emergency case that they had to deal with. Needless to say, this caused some stress for us. Kiera was also having a restless morning due to being prepped for surgery. In addition, NICU was bustling with activity and she was having trouble settling down for a nap.
Kiera was finally picked up for surgery at 11:30 am and we were able to follow her and her team down to the OR. At 2:00 pm, we were supposed to have an update for how the surgery was going but were informed at that time that her arterial line had been compromised and she needed to have a new one put in. Fortunately, Kiera was already sedated when they put the new line in but it took about an hour to get the new one in.
So, the surgeons only started the repair of the esophageal atresia at 2:00 pm and the surgery was estimated to take between three and four hours. At the 2.5 hour mark, one of the surgeons came to talk to us and said that they were done. All had gone very well.
Kiera will be sedated for the next 24 to 48 hours and her pain will be managed during this time. On Friday, the repair made on her esophagus will likely be tested. If there are no holes in the repair, she will finally get some clear fluids in her stomach.

Hi Guys! It's so good to hear that the surgery got underway and that things have gone well. GOD is GOOD!!! Kiera is absolutely beautiful and we'll be praying for a speedy recovery so that you can take your Angel home sooner than later! Remember 'you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you'...hang in there...
