Fundoplication Went Well

The fundoplication was done on Friday and the surgeon was very pleased with how it went. They started on time but the surgery took a little longer than expected but the surgeon said she was just taking her time. They were able to do it laporosopically so instead of having one large incision she has 5 small holes where they put the tools and cameras into her little belly.
She spent Friday night in Pediatric Intensive care and was moved to the regular hospital ward on Saturday afternoon. Keith spent the night in hospital with her on Saturday night and now Brenda will stay in hospital with her until she can come home. Kiera is still on IV Fluids only and if tonight goes well she may start having clear fluids and maybe formula on Monday.
Kiera is more comfortable today than yesterday but still taking Tylenol regularly for pain management. She still has smiles for us even with everything she has gone through. Unfortunately she has an NG tube in again, but this time only to allow the stomach to drain while she is healing. Hopefully it can come out on Monday.

On Friday we also met yet another specialist, this one a metabolic specialist. She interviewed us on Friday and reviewed Kiera's file on Saturday. Sunday, she came in and said she has a hunch that Kiera has leucine-sensitive hypoglycemia. Which basically means her hypoglycemia is caused by her eating proteins that contain leucine. The specialist will be doing some more reading and research tonight and come up with a game plan to treat it. The likely game plan will be to remove the leucine from her formula and see what happens.
Kiera will likely be in hospital at least until Thursday or Friday and Brenda will be staying with her the entire time. Kiera and Brenda would LOVE to have company as the days can be long. She is in ward CH-5 at Children's Hospital.

Happy to hear that everything went well and that you have a new "lead" on her blood sugar issues. I hope you get some concrete answers soon and can begin moving forward with the proper tools and strategies in place. I wish I was around to come and spend time with you in the hospital but instead I will have to wait until you are all home. Take care!

Glad to hear all is going so well. I hope you are that much closer to having Kiera home for a much longer period of time. Hugs and prayers for your family. Love, Grauntie Cheryl
