Every weekend feels hopeless when no progress from the week has been made. However, Mondays are the beginning of a new week with the hope that Kiera will turn a new corner. We are, once again, tracking Kiera's daily nutritional intake. We are supposed to track how much she drinks from the bottle and how much we need to gavage (feed through Kiera's NG tube). To get a better sense of how Kiera is doing, we have created a graphic that we will update periodically to show what percentage of her daily volume of formula that Kiera is drinking. Right now, she is at 0-.01%. The hope is that over the next few weeks, we will begin to see an upward trend.
Today has already been a busy day. Piper was awake at 7 am and has a cold (although she says she doesn't have a cold, just a stuffy nose). I managed to get Piper to eat breakfast and get dressed (getting Piper out of her pajamas is always difficult). Then I enjoyed my breakfast and coffee before Kiera woke. Thank goodness she is a great sleeper, she only woke at 8 am (10 hour night). By 8:45 Kiera had her reflux medication, a poopy diaper, and her breakfast (all through the tube). At 9 am, I called Kiera's surgeon. The surgeon is very concerned that Kiera is not swallowing and is suggesting that another swallow study be done. She will talk to the feeding doctor and together they will come up with a plan to get Kiera drinking as soon as possible. Finally, we are being taken seriously.
