New 18-hour feeding protocol

Kiera's first time sledding.
Kiera now tolerates a higher feeding rate that allows us to unhook her from her feeding pump for two 3-h breaks each day.  Our hope is that with a long enough break, she will start to feel hungry and will attempt to swallow food.  We know that the road to oral feeding is a long one and we have no short term hopes but the break from the 24-h continuous feeding gives her (and us) a certain amount of freedom.  Each break gives her an opportunity to participate in other activities like a sled ride during Christmas tree shopping.
Our perfect 2010 Christmas tree.

One of our family traditions is to travel to a tree farm, trudge through the snow, find our favorite tree, and cut it down.  Then we enjoy a simple lunch in a fire warmed barn and hop onto the sleigh pulled by horses.  We did this on Sunday and had a blast.
